We all want brighter smiles and teeth whitening can help our smiles shine.
Braydon Dental Care can help whiten your teeth to give you a brighter smile.
As we age our teeth age as well. As they become older they become a darker shade with a grayish yellow hue.
Someone in their late teens and early twenties really does not need to whiten their teeth unless they are eating or drinking a lot of high staining foods such as blueberries or drinking coffee or wine.
With good oral hygiene and regular checkups and cleanings from the dentist, your teeth should stay white longer between cleanings.
Different types of whitening
There are two types of whitening agents; abrasive and bleach.
With abrasive, you will use certain kinds of toothpastes that have abrasive granules in to help remove surface stains.
You need to be careful with these as brushing too hard can cause damage to the enamel of your teeth.
Bleaching your teeth removes stains below the surface and needs to be done carefully.
Bleaching kits that are over the counter for at home should be done as the directed by the manufacturer.
You can also get bleaching kits from your dentist; again follow the dentist’s instructions for it to work properly.
Your dentist can also do bleaching in the office. When done in the office there will usually be a protective gel used on your gums then the bleach on your teeth.
Some people who bleach their teeth may experience tooth pain because the bleaching agent gets under the enamel and works into the root. This pain is temporary.
