Back to School Checklist!

The new school year has begun! That means our back-to-school list is extensive and is going to keep many of us busy until we are back into routine. Trying to get back into a regular schedule can be tough with so many things going on. But don’t forget to add a trip to the Dentist office for a checkup!
According to the American Dental Association, a dental examination is as important as immunizations and booster shots – it is highly recommended to be a regular part of back-to-school preparations. Approximately 1 in 5 children has untreated tooth decay; if decay progresses, it can interfere with eating, speaking, sleeping and learning. Parents and teachers may not realise there’s a dental problem, so regular checkups are important to diagnose, treat, and prevent such problems. Typically to prevent decay and to treat dental problems in children, the Dentist may suggest fluoride treatment or sealants. Uncovering and treating a small problem before it turns into a larger issue can save time, money, and a tooth!
Be sure to include healthy snacks and lunches including grains, milk, cheese, raw vegetables, fruit, or yogurt for children this year. It is always best to cut back on sugary foods and soft drinks. Also, remember to wear a properly fitted mouthguard when participating in physical education classes, organized sports, or playground activities. Don’t have a mouthguard?
